Perstorp to expand caprolactone production by 2010
The groundwork for this significant investment is now complete and the expanded capacity will be operational in the first half of 2010.
The market for caprolactone and its derivatives is growing rapidly and Perstorp’s significant investment to double their production capacity of monomer, as well as increasing the capacity of polycaprolactone polyol, is a direct response to this growth.
Capa® Caprolactones are produced at Perstorp’s newly acquired site in the UK. The new monomer capacity will be based on Perstorp’s proprietary technology. With this expansion the company clearly demonstrates their commitment to supporting the caprolactones market.
“We are investing in our Capa® Caprolactones and predict a bright future for these products that complement our current portfolio of special polyols perfectly and give our customers an edge in spearheading the development of new products and applications,” Mårten Olausson, Vice President BU Caprolactones.
Capa® Caprolactones allow formulators to tailor even more precise properties in their end products. They also posses low viscosity, resulting in improved processability and lower VOC levels, and are totally biodegradable. They are integral in applications such as resin modification, waterborne PUD coatings, cast elastomers, hot-melt adhesives, support material for top-quality shoes and modern orthopedic brace supports.
