Perstorp launches Industrins biogaskommission together with industry partners
Together with representatives from the industrial and energy sector in Sweden, Perstorp today launches Industrins biogaskommission (Industrial Commission for Biogas), with the clear message to take action to increase national biogas production.
Most manufactured goods used on an everyday basis are made from fossil raw materials or using fossil processes and biogas is one key component to make the needed green transition. By 2030, the needs of biogas from the industrial sector in Sweden will amount to 10 TWh. The national production of biogas today is only 2 TWh, meaning that production needs to increase five times the levels of today to meet the needs.
The members of Industrins biogaskommission include companies in the manufacturing industry as well as producers and distributors of biogas. They have taken upon themselves to develop and suggest political measures needed for rapid increase of national production of biogas as well as for securing import biogas from other countries.
“The understanding for the industry’s need for biogas as a raw material in many manufacturing processes must increase and lead to actions. Biogas has a key role in sustainable transition for almost all products in our society. We see that production of biogas in Sweden must increase to five times the levels of today by 2030.” comments Adam Kanne, VP Public Affairs at Perstorp, and Chairman of Industrins biogaskommission.
The launch of Industrins biogaskommission takes place at a seminar in the Swedish Parliament today February 28. Industry representatives include Perstorp, Höganäs, SSAB, IKEA, IKEM, Nordion Energi, Gasum, Uniper, Avfall Sverige and Energigas Sverige.
