Transforming the chemical industry with Perstorp’s Pro-Environment polyols

Traditionally, the chemical industry is known for its large environmental footprint and dependence on virgin fossil raw materials. At Perstorp, we have started to shift away from this, instead advocating the use of renewable and recycled raw materials based on mass balance. A good example of this is our portfolio of Pro-Environment polyols Evyron™, Neeture™, and Voxtar™. These products not only support the industry's transformation towards more sustainable raw materials, but also offer compelling value for businesses aiming to move away from fossil materials and secure a competitive edge in the market.

How can Perstorp’s solutions help reduce the industry’s carbon footprint?

During recent years we have worked on developing and expanding our Pro-Environment Solutions portfolio.  These products are designed to reduce the carbon footprint throughout the value chain and to support sustainable sourcing of renewable and recycled raw materials based on mass balance. Pro-Environment products are chemically identical to their fossil counterparts, offering the same quality without trade-off in performance. The only difference lies in the raw materials, whose origins are renewable/recycled instead of virgin fossil. For example, we make use of raw materials such as biogas, biomethanol, bioacetaldehyde and biopropylene.

What makes Perstorp’s Pro-Environment polyols a more sustainable choice?

As part of our Pro-Environment portfolio, we offer several renewable/recycled based polyols which makes it possible to phase out virgin fossil raw materials for a wide range of applications across many market segments:

  • Evyron™ - our Pro-Environment counterpart to TMP (trimethylolpropane)
  • Neeture™ - our Pro-Environment counterpart to Neo (neopentyl glycol)
  • Voxtar™ - our Pro-Environment counterpart to Penta (pentaerythritol)

Our Pro-Environment polyols come in various grades, all having a significantly reduced product carbon footprint compared to their fossil counterpart. Recently, our Pro-Environment polyols became available with 100% renewable/recycled carbon content based on mass balance with chemical and physical traceability. When including the biogenic CO2uptake11 from the renewable raw materials, the products will have a negative product carbon footprint22 at the Perstorp gate. These Pro-Environment polyols produced set the standard for low carbon footprint chemicals without compromising the quality and performance standards synonymous with our brand.

The transparency and traceability of our Pro-Environment polyols are validated through the ISCC PLUS certified mass balance approach. This certification ensures that all renewable and recycled raw materials used meet high sustainability requirements, such as zero deforestation, across the entire value chain from the point of origin. Additionally, our mass balance approach includes both chemical and physical traceability, providing a real connection between the raw materials and the end products. Moreover, our Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculations are also ISCC PLUS certified, updated, and audited annually, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining rigorous sustainability standards.

How can Perstorp’s Pro-Environment polyols elevate your business?

Perstorp's Pro-Environment Polyols offer value for businesses wanting to shift away from virgin fossil raw materials and gain a competitive edge in the market. Based on mass balanced raw materials sourced from renewable and recycled feedstock, these polyols significantly reduce CO2 emissions and product carbon footprints compared to fossil equivalents. Businesses leveraging these polyols can distinguish their offerings, seizing a competitive advantage by meeting the growing consumer demand for products with reduced carbon footprint without the need for development or reformulation.

Moreover, Perstorp's polyols are a true drop-in solution, allowing companies to maintain their production quality and efficiency while committing to environmental responsibility. The traceable mass balance approach Perstorp applies with chemical and physical traceability offers real credibility and transparency, firmly establishing a real connection from end products back to the renewable/recycled raw materials they originate from. This traceability not only demonstrates a company's commitment to sustainability but also drives the real transition of products and development of raw materials and processes needed. In turn, providing the traceability and credibility that stakeholders, including brand owners, governments, regulators, and consumers, require.

Reduce your carbon footprint with Perstorp’s Pro-Environment polyols

Reflecting on our journey, Perstorp's transition to renewable/recycled based polyols like Evyron™, Neeture™, and Voxtar™ showcases our ambition to transform the chemical industry and support our value chains in their own journeys. Starting with a clear acknowledgment of the environmental impact inherent in our sector, we focus on innovative solutions that align with our ambition of shifting away from fossil raw materials. These solutions with a reduced product carbon footprint provide value for businesses aiming to move away from fossil materials, lower their carbon footprint, and secure a competitive edge in the market.
