Perstorp Launches Akestra™ in the U.S. – Supporting PCR and carbon footprint reduction with High-Performance Packaging
Specialty chemicals producer Perstorp is excited to announce that the Akestra™ solution, is now available to U.S. Akestra ™ is a thermoplastic that will enhance the functionality and circularity of recycled PET (rPET) for the food packaging industry. With unique properties that address critical sustainability and performance needs, Akestra™ provides an ideal solution for high-demand plastic applications, including hot-fill and hot food & beverage service consumer packaging.
Hot-fill Packaging with Recycled Content
Akestra™ is enabling circularity, allowing rPET food packaging to withstands hot-fill applications and incorporates up to 90% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. With the capacity to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 70% from cradle to grave, Akestra™ offers manufacturers alternative that aligns with both industry needs and environmental goals.
With tunable properties such as heat resistance up to 95°C and customizable appearance options—from sparkling transparency to opaque or colored—Akestra™ gives manufacturers the flexibility to tailor packaging performance and aesthetics to specific needs. This versatility positions products containing Akestra™ as a top choice for brands looking to balance functionality, visual appeal, and cost efficiency.
Seamless Integration with Existing Infrastructure
Switching to Akestra™ is straightforward, with no major investments required. Existing PET sheet, co-extrusion, thermoforming, and Form Fill Seal (FFS) lines can adopt Akestra™ with minor or no modifications, easing the transition to packaging material that contribute to PCR and carbon footprint reduction without financial or operational hurdles.
