Valerins interview Avicultura
"Valerins : A new organic acid molecule demonstrates next level gut balance benefits.’’
An interview with Jose Maria Ros Felip, Veterinarian and Business Development Manager at Perstorp done by Avicultura
In synergy with the ESPN 2019, European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition, completed in Poland, Perstorp held a seminar entitled "Chicken production in the post-antibiotic era" attended by poultry nutritionists from around the world where the presence Latin American was significant.
A new molecule, ProPhorce™ Valerins and the latest fieldwork were presented. The role of data mining in the improvement of zootechnical results was also discussed. With this reason we interview J.M. Ros Felip
Q: The presence of Perstorp in the last editions of ESPN has been a constant. What are the reasons?
A: Perstorp is a company with more than 135 years of history and that has been present in the world of animal feed for more than 50 years developing solutions from organic acids. We have a long experience about its use and potential benefits in the livestock industry and we can work with them in different presentations depending on the main objective of their application.
We perceive a great interest in organic acids as solutions in biosecurity and digestive health in general, but especially at the ESPN events. Because of its global impact, ESPN is an ideal forum to present our news.
Q: In the present edition they have presented a new molecule, which in itself is a novel fact. What can you tell us about that?
A: Valeric acid (C5) is the last short chain fatty acid. Like propionic, acetic and butyric, it is found naturally in the intestinal lumen as a result of fermentation of the fiber by the saprophyte flora. This fact suggests that it can play a positive role in the development and protection of intestinal health and integrity. During the last 5 years we have researched in this field. Due to its international relevance and repercussion, we considered that ESPN 2019 was the right time to present the results of this work.
Q: Perstorp has opted for esterification as the most appropriate way to manage organic acids. Why?
A: Esterification provides a series of advantages over other more traditional forms of presentation of these acids: it reduces handling problems (odor, corrosion) and is very stable. Esterification is the most efficient way to get organic acids into the intestine.
As in the case of butyric acid esters, our goal is to efficiently locate the valeric acid where it is most effective, in the intestine.
Q: What novelty do valeric acid esters contribute to poultry production?
A: The conclusions of the research program developed jointly with the University of Ghent for 5 years, suggest that ProPhorce™ Valerins has similarities in its mode of action with butyric acid esters, however it however it has demonstrated to provide greater stability between weeks 2 and 4 of the fattening of the chickens, which results in a greater improvement of the productive results and intestinal health.
This effect has been observed in other tests carried out both in Europe and in the United States of America and in field tests.
Q: Following your explanation Are you plating a strategic use of ProPhorce™ Valerins?
A: The quality of poultry production is constantly improving globally, and the optimization of results is increasingly linked to the solution or improvement in aspects that can vary significantly between companies, regions and production phases. The strategic use of solutions available at the moment is already a common practice. I certainly believe that ProPhorce™ Valerins will prove to be a very valuable tool in the portfolio of capable nutritionists.
We understand that it is our job to make our experience known and help in the development of the best programs for our clients.
Q: Can I combine the valeric with other organic acids?
A: One of the advantages of esters of organic acids is their ease of handling and mixing with other ingredients and feed additives. In fact, we are working with programs that successfully combine ProPhorce™ Valerins and ProPhorce™ SR 130.
As I pointed out above, we want to help you find the best program for each situation.
Q: At the ESPN, European Symposium on Avian Nutrition, Perstorp has placed special emphasis on poultry data mining, what is the strategy?
A: We understand that there is a potential to be exploited in the collection and analysis of productive data. Fortunately, the tools to work efficiently are already available. We have to learn to integrate the management of all this information in a practice
