Presenting our new site in Amsterdam
In December 2024 the announcement of Perstorp’s acquisition of the ester site in Amsterdam was made, and the integration has been ongoing since the Day 1 event that was held on December 16.
The acquisition of our new site Amsterdam marked Perstorp's first step toward the growth of the synthetic ester business. This is a step in realizing Perstorp's progressive product portfolio, developed to improve our sustainability performance, by extending the focusing efforts on serving the specialty fluids market.
Perstorp Amsterdam BV is located in the Westpoort area of Amsterdam and was first established in 1995 by Mobil Chemical to manufacture esters used as base lubrication oil for automotive engines. Over the years the site has produced esters for different applications like automotive lubrication, refrigerant lubrication, plasticizers and even a few cosmetic esters. The site is a batch plant that has a lot of flexibility to meet the different specifications for most customers.
“Over the last decades the team at the Amsterdam Esters Plant has gained a lot of experience in producing esters for various applications. With this experience the team is happy that they can support Perstorp in developing Engineered Fluids. These fluids will play a vital role in the energy transition that is currently ongoing in Europe”, says Joost Overeijnder, Plant Manager at site Amsterdam.
Currently the site is being integrated in the Perstorp way of working. The priority has been to get REACH registered and to ensure that the site meets the Perstorp safety standards. When these steps have been taken, the site will start to produce several trial batches. Once the quality is approved the site will start to ramp up production to full scale.
On December 16th, a Day 1 event was hosted to bring everyone together and to lay the foundation for the upcoming future. The focus of the day was sharing perspectives, and discussing plans for the future, as the aim is to begin manufacturing a new range of synthetic esters in early 2025.
“The day 1 event was a very successful start within Perstorp. The atmosphere was vibrant and positive as the team was eager to understand the vision for the Amsterdam site explained by Valentina Serra Holm, Vice President Engineered Fluids“, Joost Overeijnder concludes.
