Molds and mycotoxins
It is estimated that more than 25% of the world production of wheat, barley and maize is contaminated with mycotoxins resulting from mold growth. Perstorp offers several types of tools to deal with mould growth and mycotoxins.
It is estimated that more than 25% of the world production of wheat, barley and maize is contaminated with mycotoxins resulting from mold growth. Mold growth is stimulated by several biological and environmental factors such as high temperature, high moisture level in grain kernels or high contamination with soil.
Even if the molds are not visible the nutritional value of grain or feed can be affected by mold growth. The reduction of nutritional value of feed and the negative impact that molds have on animal health and performance can seriously affect the profitability of a farm or feed mill.
Mycotoxins in feed can cause problems in farm animals such as reduced growth, reduced egg production and quality, fertility problems and dysfunctional rumen. Each mold type produces different types of mycotoxins such as aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, ochratoxin, T2-toxin and zearalenone. These mycotoxins are produced during the growing season or during storage.
Highly effective solutions for mold related problems
ProSid™ feed additives from Perstorp include a number of products that are dedicated to preventing or minimizing mold damage. Their properties have been fully investigated and product formulations have been developed to ensure you achieve optimal results.
ProSid™ MI is our group of mold inhibitors. These products are based on synergistic blends of organic acids. By treating your grains or feed with ProSid™ MI you can prevent mold growth along with the formation of mycotoxins.
In certain geographical areas we can also offer you our broad spectrum adsorbents called ProSid™ TB. When you suspect that your feed or raw material is contaminated with mycotoxins, you can add ProSid™ TB to prevent your animals from getting health problems caused by them. Our ProSid™ TB comprises a mix of adsorbents that remove toxins by adsorbing them so that they can be readily excreted from the animal.
